Sri Padha, is well known for the Sacred foot print which in Buddhist tradition is held to be the foot print of Lord Buddha,
in Hindu tradition that of Lord Shiva , in Islamic and Christian
tradition that of Adam.
There are as much as six routes to the peak 2243m above sea level. The shortest and steepest is the Hatton – Nallathanniya route at a distance of 5km which takes between 3-4 hrs to climb.
Travellers start at around 0230h from the base to reach the summit in time to catch a glimpse of the sun rise. Although the season starts in December and goes on till May climbing during off season is becoming popular among visitors. Several small guest houses are located at Nallathanniya catering to the visitors. Millions of devotees climb to the peak each year to worship the sacred foot print.
