Travel is my dream

Nature For You

Capture the moment

Yet another place to be visited in Nuwara Eliya district of Sri Lanka is the tallest mountain of Sri Lanka, so called as the Piduruthalagala mountain range. This mountain bio diversity is more suitable for hiking, climbing or mountaineering. Travelers are preferred to climb this mountain during the months of April-June. Probably it is a bit harder goal to reach the top of the peak which is about 2524m above MSL.
The Piduruthalagala Mountain or the Mount Pedro is located North- Northeast from the Nuwara Eliya city. The most interesting feature is that the mountain is the ultra high-security zone where few buildings are established by the Sri Lankan military forces. So that you may need to arrange permission from the ministry of defense in order to reach the top. Another broadcasting corporation building is set on the top of the mountain. You will have to travel on a concrete road and some more kilo meters through the thick jungle. Somehow these kinds of constructions may lead the mountain to be modernized. If so it will be a great threat to the Mount Pedro. Magnificent vicinity to the mist covered mountain tops and mountain ranges can be enjoyed leisurely. If you were mistaken, certainly you will be bemused. Perhaps you may feel that the road constructed through the forest is a disturbance to nature. Literally of course, but it has been a keen support enjoy the place for adults, disable people and children.

Rather than that the environment has been much polluted with polythene and plastics. The thick jungle beside the road is shaded by the broader canopy. Due to the gusty wind blowing through the hilltops, the trees and shrubs may get smaller and smaller. Even though the government of Sri Lanka published an official stamp designating the Piduruthalagala Mountain as a heritage. Eventually, it has been visited by both local and foreign nature enthusiasts and nature lovers.

You will recognize that an area is a place brimmed with a wide range of wild life activities. Being a high elevation country gives you a cool climate. The multiplicity of animals, plants, birds and flowers including endemic and non-endemic are in residence on the mountain. A journey through this trekking mountain will bring you a dissimilar experience of whispering streams and murmuring trees and plants. So the Piduruthalagala Mountain is more applicable for hiking and trekking. Be sure to take a binocular with you to identify the wild species that you may meet.
